పూరి జగన్నాథుని రథయాత్ర కోసం అక్షయ తృతీయ రోజు నుంచే రథం తయారు చేసే పనులు ప్రారంభమవుతాయి. ఈ రథాల తయారీకి కొత్త వేప, కలప చెట్లను ఉపయోగిస్తారు. ఈ మూడు రథాల తయారీకి 884 చెట్లను వాడతారు. పూజారులు అడవికి వెళ్లి రథాన్ని నడిపేందుకు ఉపయోగించే చెట్లకు పూజలు చేస్తారు.
